Family rides along the Mission Creek Greenway are the kind of outings where a growing rider starts wanting more gears and more speed. The Wahoo 24 Path is Trek's lightweight 24" kids' bike. It's built for kids ready to step up from a smaller single-speed or coaster-brake bike to something that works like a grown-up bike. Its Alpha Silver Aluminum frame is light enough for young riders to handle easily and tough enough for daily bumps and jumps. A microSHIFT 1x8 drivetrain with thumb-activated trigger shifters gives them real gears for hills. Wide 2" Bontrager Connection Comp tyres roll fast on pavement while keeping grip on packed paths, and linear-pull rim brakes with kids' levers give them dependable stopping power.

KEY FEATURES

Frame: Alpha Silver Aluminum with upright, hybrid-style geometry that feels like an adult bike, paired with an alloy Wahoo 24" fork.

Brakes: Alloy linear-pull (V-brake) rim brakes front and rear.

Wheels / Tyres: Alloy 24" 28-hole rims on Formula alloy hubs, with Bontrager Connection Comp 24x2.00" tyres that roll fast on pavement and grip on paths.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

The Wahoo 24 Path is built for kids roughly 8 to 12 who are confident on a bike and ready for their first real gears and hand brakes. It suits riders heading to school, around the neighbourhood, and out on weekend family rides on greenways and rail trails. They'll love how light it is to pedal and steer, how easy the thumb shifter is to use, and how grown-up it looks and feels. Parents will appreciate the durable aluminum build and a weight that makes lifting it onto a car rack easy.
Our team at Fresh Air will help you find the right fit in-store at both Kelowna locations. Stop by to work with one of our experienced staff members, or call 250-763-3425.

HOW TO SET UP

We'll make sure your child's Wahoo 24 Path fits them before it goes home. Our team will set the saddle height so they can pedal efficiently and still reach the ground comfortably, and adjust the brake levers so small hands can reach and squeeze them easily. We'll also walk your young rider through the thumb shifter so gear changes feel natural from their first ride. We're happy to check their helmet fit too, so everything is sitting right before they ride away. As they grow, bring the bike back and we'll raise the saddle, tune the brakes and gears, and keep it running smoothly.

FAQ

Q1: What size Trek Wahoo 24 Path do I need?
Trek recommends the Wahoo 24 Path for kids ages 8–12 who are about 130–150 cm (4'3"–4'11") tall. If your child is at the shorter end of that range, or still building confidence, the 20" Wahoo Path may be a better fit for now. Taller or older riders may be ready for the 26" version. Height matters more than age, so bring your child into either Fresh Air location and we'll confirm the fit in person. See Trek's geometry chart (linked above) for full measurements.

Q2: Is the Trek Wahoo 24 Path right for the Okanagan Rail Trail?
Yes, it's a great family trail bike. The 2" Bontrager Connection Comp tyres roll quickly on paved sections and hold traction on the trail's packed gravel stretches. The 11-38 gear range makes small hills manageable for young legs. The light aluminum frame means kids can keep going longer before they tire out. It's also a good fit for the Mission Creek Greenway and neighbourhood rides.

Q3: How do I know when my child has outgrown their bike?
Common signs include knees coming up close to the handlebars while pedalling, the saddle already raised to its maximum safe height, or your child looking cramped and hunched over. Many kids move out of a 24" bike once they're taller than about 150 cm (4'11"), which is the top of Trek's recommended range for the Wahoo 24 Path. If you're not sure, bring your child and their bike into either Fresh Air location and we'll check the fit.
