Long Okanagan valley road routes reward bikes that stay comfortable for hours — and the Trek Domane AL 5 Gen 4 is built exactly for that. Founded on Trek's 100 Series Alpha Aluminium frame with a full carbon fork and the endurance geometry the Domane line is known for, the AL 5 steps things up meaningfully with a Shimano 105 R7100 2×12 mechanical drivetrain, hydraulic disc brakes, and tyre clearance up to 38mm. It's a bike that handles everything from a fast group ride to a loaded day on mixed roads — and grows with the rider as their ambitions do.

KEY FEATURES

Frame: Trek 100 Series Alpha Aluminium, tapered head tube, internal cable routing, fender and rack mounts, flat-mount disc, UDH, 142×12mm thru-axle — advanced tube shaping delivers a high-end aesthetic at an aluminium price point

Fork: Domane AL carbon, tapered carbon steerer, internal brake routing, fender mounts, flat-mount disc, 12×100mm thru-axle — full carbon construction smooths road vibration and keeps front-end weight low

Drivetrain: Shimano 105 R7100 mechanical, 2×12 speed; 50/34 crankset, Shimano 105 7101 cassette 11-34T — 24 gears with a wide range that handles Okanagan climbs and flat valley sprints equally well

Brakes: Shimano 105 hydraulic disc, flat-mount, with Shimano RT70 CentreLock rotors, 160mm front and rear — sharper modulation and better wet-weather performance than the AL 4's mechanical-disc Tiagra setup

Wheels / Tyres: Bontrager Paradigm SL Tubeless Ready rims (24-hole, 21mm inner width, Presta valve) with Formula alloy hubs; Bontrager R1 Hard-Case Lite 700×32mm tyres — tubeless-ready out of the box with puncture protection built in

Cockpit: Bontrager Elite IsoZone VR-SF alloy handlebar (31.8mm, 4cm drop-to-hood flare, internal Di2 routing-ready); Bontrager Elite stem (31.8mm, Blendr-compatible, 7-degree); Bontrager Supertack Perf bar tape

Seatpost: Bontrager Comp 6061 alloy, 27.2mm, 8mm offset, 330mm length; Verse Short saddle, 145mm width, steel rails

Weight: 9.85 kg / 21.72 lbs (56cm, with tubes — confirmed)

Max tyre clearance: 38mm (measured) without mudguards — ready for gravel roads and mixed-surface day trips

WHO IS THIS FOR

The Domane AL 5 Gen 4 is the right choice for riders who are ready to invest in a genuinely capable endurance road bike and want a groupset they won't outgrow quickly. The step to Shimano 105 R7100 12-speed brings noticeably crisper shifting and a wider gear range than the Tiagra-equipped AL 4, while the 105 hydraulic disc brakes deliver confident, well-modulated stopping in all conditions. It suits riders building toward longer events — gran fondos, multi-day tours, or simply consistent high-kilometre seasons on Okanagan roads — who want comfort and performance in the same package without moving to carbon.

HOW TO SET UP

As a certified Trek dealer, our team can dial in your contact points before you leave — saddle height, bar reach, and stem length all affect how the Domane AL 5 feels across long days, and getting these right from the start saves a lot of discomfort down the road. We'll also set tyre pressure for the roads you're riding: the Bontrager R1 Hard-Case Lite tyres are tubeless-ready, and if you want to run them tubeless, our mechanics can set that up in-store. The Blendr-compatible stem makes it straightforward to add a cycling computer, and we carry a full range of Bontrager accessories to complement the cockpit. We're also happy to talk through cleat alignment if you're coming onto clipless pedals for the first time.

GEOMETRY & SIZING

Frame geometry and sizing details for the Trek Domane AL 5 Gen 4 are available on the Trek website. Trek offers the Domane AL 5 Gen 4 in six sizes: 49, 52, 54, 56, 58, and 61. As a general guide, the 49 suits riders approximately 156–163cm, the 52 fits 163–168cm, the 54 fits 168–174cm, the 56 fits 174–180cm, the 58 fits 180–185cm, and the 61 fits 185–191cm — but inseam length and riding position preferences matter just as much as height. Our team at Fresh Air can help you find the right frame size based on your height, inseam, and riding style — come in to either Kelowna location and we'll get you dialled in.

FAQ

Q1: What size Trek Domane AL 5 Gen 4 do I need?
The Domane AL 5 Gen 4 comes in six sizes (49 through 61). As a starting point: the 49 is designed for riders around 156–163cm, 52 for 163–168cm, 54 for 168–174cm, 56 for 174–180cm, 58 for 180–185cm, and 61 for 185–191cm. That said, inseam length and how stretched out you prefer to ride affect the ideal choice as much as height does. Check the geometry chart linked in the Geometry & Sizing section above, and come into either Fresh Air Kelowna location so our team can confirm the right size for you in person.

Q2: Is the Trek Domane AL 5 Gen 4 a good fit for Okanagan valley road riding?
It's an excellent match. The Domane AL 5's endurance geometry keeps you comfortable and efficient across long valley road rides where a more aggressive race position would wear you down. The 105 hydraulic disc brakes handle descents with confident modulation, and the 32mm tubeless-ready tyres (with clearance for up to 38mm) smooth out chip-seal and rougher road surfaces common in the Okanagan. Whether you're setting distance records or doing regular group rides, this bike has the range and reliability to keep up.

Q3: What groupset is on the Domane AL 5 Gen 4 and is it upgradeable?
The Domane AL 5 Gen 4 ships with a Shimano 105 R7100 mechanical 2×12-speed groupset — a substantial jump over the Tiagra 2×10 on the AL 4, with more speeds, sharper shifting, and broader compatibility across the 12-speed Shimano ecosystem. The frame uses Trek's UDH (Universal Derailleur Hanger) and standard BSA threading, which keeps future upgrade options open. The handlebar also has internal Di2 routing, meaning a future upgrade to electronic shifting is possible without replacing the cockpit. Our team can advise on upgrade paths.
