Product details

Whether you're dropping into Knox Mountain's steeper lines in summer or riding the park at Big White in winter, spine protection is one piece of gear worth having. The POC VPD Air Back is a lightweight back protector certified to EN 1621-2 Level 1. It's built with VPD (Visco-Elastic Polymer Dough), which adapts its shape to your body for comfort and absorbs energy on impact. A durable, highly breathable mesh fabric keeps it cool under a jersey or jacket. Adjustable shoulder straps, a removable height-adjustable waist band and a sternum strap let you dial in a secure fit. It's part of POC's modular VPD Air system and pairs with the VPD Air Chest to form the full VPD Air Torso.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

The VPD Air Back is for riders and skiers who want certified spine protection in a light, low-profile package. It suits enduro and bike park riders who are pushing into steeper, faster terrain, and skiers or snowboarders who spend time in the park or on challenging runs. Because it's modular, you can wear it on its own year-round or add the VPD Air Chest for full torso coverage on the bike.

Our team at Fresh Air will help you find the right fit in-store at both Kelowna locations. Stop by to work with one of our experienced staff members, or call 250-763-3425.

FAQ

Q1: How do I find the right size POC VPD Air Back?
Back protector sizing is usually based on torso length and height, so check POC's size chart before choosing. When fitted correctly, the protector should run along your spine from the base of your neck toward your lower back without pushing into your helmet when you look up. It should stay centred when you bend into a riding or skiing stance. Try it on in-store so our staff can check the coverage and strap adjustment.

Q2: Is the POC VPD Air Back compatible with the VPD Air Chest?
Yes. The VPD Air Back is part of POC's modular VPD Air system and combines with the VPD Air Chest to form the full VPD Air Torso. If you buy the back protector first, you can add the chest module later for full torso coverage on the bike.

Q3: Can I wear the VPD Air Back for both mountain biking and skiing?
Yes. POC designs the VPD Air system for all-year, multisport use, so the back protector can be worn on its own for skiing and snowboarding as well as mountain biking. It's certified to EN 1621-2 Level 1, the European standard for back protectors. That standard has two levels, with Level 2 being the stricter tier. Level 1 protectors balance certified impact protection with lighter weight and flexibility, which suits riders who want comfort and ventilation. Ask our staff about Level 2 options if you want maximum protection for downhill or park riding.
