Dæhlie describes the Shift Jacket as a regular fit with a relaxed cut, so it’s designed to fit comfortably over a base layer and a mid-layer. Most skiers will want their usual size. Q2: Is this jacket warm and waterproof enough for cross-country skiing at Sovereign Lake or SilverStar?
It’s well suited to everyday skiing in the Okanagan’s typically cold, dry conditions. The 3-layer softshell with TPU membrane blocks wind, and the 3,000mm rating with a DWR finish sheds light, dry snow. It’s a lightweight, water-resistant layer rather than a fully waterproof shell, so it isn’t designed for heavy wet snow or sustained precipitation. The jacket isn’t insulated, so add a warmer mid-layer on very cold days. Breathability is moderate, which makes it better suited to steady skiing than all-out race efforts.

Q3: How do I care for the TPU membrane and DWR finish to maintain waterproofing and breathability?
Dæhlie recommends washing at 40°C on a normal cycle with similar colours, with all zips closed. Don’t use fabric softener, bleach or dry cleaning. To reactivate the water-repellent treatment, tumble dry on low or iron warm (max 110°C), but don’t iron over the printed logo. Washing regularly removes sweat and dirt that can reduce the fabric’s performance over a season.
