Product details

Knox Mountain's steep, rocky descents reward commitment, and a little extra protection makes it easier to ride with confidence. The POC VPD Air Torso gives you certified chest and back protection without the bulk of a full jacket or vest. It consists of a separate 3D-moulded chest plate and back plate, certified to EN 1621-3 and EN 1621-2 Level 1. The VPD material softens with body heat so it moves with you on the bike, then hardens on impact to absorb the hit. Large ventilation ports let body heat escape on hot Okanagan summer days, and the minimal design layers easily under a riding jersey.

WHOI S THIS FOR?

The VPD Air Torso is for trail, enduro and bike park riders who want certified upper-body protection that doesn't feel like a suit of armour. It's a strong choice if you're riding faster or steeper terrain and want to protect your spine and chest without overheating. Riders who also ski can get more value from it by wearing the back plate on its own in winter.

Our team at Fresh Air will help you find the right fit in-store at both Kelowna locations. Stop by to work with one of our experienced staff members, or call 250-763-3425.

FAQ

Q1: How do I find the right size POC VPD Air Torso?
The VPD Air Torso comes in sizes XS, S, M and L. As a reference, POC's model is 175 cm (5'9") tall and wears a size Medium. Check POC's size chart for the exact measurements for each size [VERIFY: size chart measurements]. When fitted correctly, the back plate should cover your spine and the chest plate should sit centred over your sternum without shifting when you move into a riding position. Try it on in-store in your riding stance to confirm.

Q2: Can the POC VPD Air Torso be used for skiing as well as mountain biking?
Yes. The design is modular: by swapping the straps, you can wear the back protector on its own, which makes it useful for both ski and bike seasons. The adjustment straps for this setup are sold separately. Ask our staff to check availability.

Q3: What does EN 1621 Level 1 certification mean?
EN 1621 is the European standard for motorcycle-style impact protectors, which is widely used for MTB body armour. EN 1621-2 covers back protectors and EN 1621-3 covers chest protectors. Each standard has two levels, and Level 2 is the stricter tier. Level 1 protectors are tested to absorb impact energy while staying lighter and more flexible, which suits the comfort and ventilation needs of trail and enduro riding. Riders who prioritize maximum protection for downhill or bike park use can ask our staff about Level 2 options.
