Product details

Whether you're stopping for coffee in Pandosy Village or leaving your bike at a trailhead off the Okanagan Rail Trail, a dependable lock means you don't have to worry while you're away from it. The Kryptonite Keeper 712 Combo Chain pairs 7mm four-sided 3T manganese steel links with a key-free, 4-digit resettable combination, so there's nothing to carry and no key to lose. An end-link locking point secures the chain to a hardened deadbolt for strong holding power. The 120 cm length is long enough to wrap around your frame, a wheel, and a rack or post, and a weather-resistant nylon sleeve protects your bike's paint.

WHOI S THIS FOR?

The Keeper 712 is a good fit for commuters, errand riders, and anyone who makes regular short stops around town and would rather not carry keys. Its moderate 5/10 security rating suits lower-to-moderate risk situations. It also works well as a second lock alongside a U-lock when you're parking for longer or in busier areas. At 4.5 lb, it's best carried in a basket, pannier, or bag, or draped over a rack.

Our team at Fresh Air will help you find the right fit in-store at both Kelowna locations. Stop by to work with one of our experienced staff members, or call 250-763-3425.

FAQ

Q1: How do I find the right size chain lock?
Think about what you'll lock to. The 120 cm length of the Keeper 712 wraps comfortably around a frame, front wheel, and a standard bike rack or post. Longer chains give more options but add weight. Shorter chains are lighter but limit what you can secure. Bring your bike in and our staff can help you check the reach.

Q2: Is the Keeper 712 compatible with a U-lock setup?
Yes. Kryptonite rates this chain 5/10, so it works well as a secondary lock alongside a U-lock. A common setup is to put the U-lock through the frame and rear wheel and the chain through the front wheel and frame. Using two different lock types also means a thief needs more than one tool.

Q3: How secure is the Keeper 712, and what happens if I forget my combination?
Kryptonite rates its locks on a 1–10 scale, and the Keeper 712 sits at 5/10, which is moderate security. It also carries Sold Secure Bronze certification. You can register your combination through Kryptonite's Combo Safe Program so you can recover it if you forget it. Registered owners are also eligible for Kryptonite's optional Anti-Theft Protection Offer, worth up to $500 on bicycles (a paid registration applies; see Kryptonite for terms).
