Product details

For the coldest chairlift rides at Big White and Silver Star, or long days guiding and touring in the Monashees, the Heli Ski Mitt is Hestra's warmest take on its legendary guide glove. Hestra originally created the Army Leather Heli Ski for ski guides in western Canada. The mitt pairs durable goat leather, which gives excellent grip and feel, with a 3-layer polyamide backhand. The liner is easy to remove and swap if it gets damp or to match your activity level and the temperature. A long cuff with snow lock and a Velcro® wrist strap keep warmth in and snow out, and a wrist leash and carabiner eyelet keep the mitt secure when it's off your hand.

FAQ

Q1: How do I find the right size Hestra Heli Ski Mitt?
The Army Leather Heli Ski Mitt comes in Hestra sizes Hestra sizes are based on hand circumference: measure around your hand just below the knuckles, excluding your thumb, then check Hestra's size guide. A mitt should leave a little room at the fingertips, because trapped air adds warmth. Our staff can help you try sizes in-store.

Q2: Does the Heli Ski Mitt go over my jacket cuff, and is it waterproof?
Yes, it goes over. The long gauntlet cuff fits over your jacket sleeve, and the snow lock and Velcro® wrist strap seal out snow. The mitt doesn't have a waterproof membrane, and Hestra rates it as not waterproof [VERIFY: Hestra's product copy calls the backhand fabric waterproof, but its spec table lists the mitt as not waterproof]. The treated goat leather and polyamide backhand resist moisture, and the G-Loft insulation keeps insulating even when damp. Treating the leather regularly with the included Leather Balm helps maintain its water resistance.

Q3: Should I choose the Heli Ski Mitt or the Heli Ski Glove?
Choose the mitt for maximum warmth and the glove for dexterity. Hestra rates the mitt at 8/8 for warmth and 3/8 for mobility, while the 5-finger glove rates 6/8 for both. Mitts keep your fingers together so they share heat, which makes them the better choice for very cold days or cold hands. The 3-finger version sits between the two.
