Product details

From first turns on the bunny hill at Big White to following the family down the groomers at Silver Star, the Giro Spur MIPS is built for young skiers and riders. Giro brought the technology from its adult helmets to youth sizing. The Spur pairs MIPS rotational-impact protection with lightweight In-Mold construction and an easy dial fit system. Super Cool vents let hot air escape, and a soft interior keeps kids comfortable all day on the hill.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

The Spur MIPS is made for kids who are learning to ski or snowboard or already charging the whole mountain. Parents get MIPS protection in a lightweight youth helmet. Kids get a comfortable fit they can adjust themselves with the glove-friendly dial. The adjustable fit system also gives some room to adjust as heads grow through the season, without compromising a secure fit.

Our team at Fresh Air will help you find the right fit in-store at both Kelowna locations. Stop by to work with one of our experienced staff members, or call 250-763-3425.

FAQ

Q1: How do I find the right size Giro Spur MIPS helmet for my child?
Wrap a soft measuring tape around your child's head, keeping it level from front to back, just above the eyebrows. Compare the measurement to Giro's youth sizing: YXS 48.5–52 cm, YS 52–55.5 cm, YM 55.5–59 cm. The helmet should fit with a little room when the dial is loose. It should also sit low enough to protect the forehead without blocking vision. Avoid sizing up for growth, since a helmet that's too big won't stay in place during a fall. The In Form dial lets you fine-tune the fit within the correct size.

Q2: Is the Giro Spur MIPS compatible with kids' goggles?
Yes. The Spur's Vertical Tuning system adjusts to accommodate different goggles and head shapes, which helps eliminate the gap between the goggle frame and the helmet brim. Giro pairs the Spur with its Buster youth goggle. Most youth goggles from other brands will also work, so try your child's goggles on with the helmet in-store to confirm the fit.

Q3: Why does helmet fit matter for kids' safety, and how do I check it?
A helmet can only protect your child properly if it stays in position during a fall. A loose helmet can shift on impact and leave the forehead or temples exposed. To check the fit, turn the In Form dial until the helmet feels snug but comfortable. Then have your child gently shake their head side to side and front to back. The helmet should move with their head rather than sliding around. The front edge should sit about one to two finger-widths above the eyebrows, and the chin strap should be snug with room for about one finger underneath. Recheck the fit at the start of each season as your child grows.
