Product details

When an Okanagan storm rolls through Big White and the wind picks up on the upper chairs, staying warm between runs makes all the difference. The Peak Performance Helium Down Hood Jacket is Peak Performance's lightest and most packable down layer, designed for exactly those moments. It's filled with 700 fill power duck down in the brand's iconic quilted Helium pattern and weighs just 0.3 kg. Layer it under your shell on cold, snowy days at SilverStar, wear it on its own on crisp bluebird afternoons, or throw it on for après and everyday wear around Kelowna all winter.

WHO IS THIS FOR

The Helium is for women who want one lightweight, warm layer that does a bit of everything. Resort skiers can wear it as an insulating mid-layer under a shell on cold storm days at Big White and SilverStar. Ski tourers can stash it in a pack for transitions and summit stops. It also works on its own for crisp, dry days and everyday wear around town. Down performs best in cold, dry conditions, which makes it a great match for the Okanagan's dry winters. Peak Performance recommends it for low- to mid-intensity activity, such as chairlift laps, lunch breaks on the deck, and the walk to and from the hill.

Our team at Fresh Air will help you find the right size and fit in-store at both Kelowna locations. Stop by to talk gear and activity with one of our experienced staff members, or call 250-763-3425.

FAQ

Q1: How does Peak Performance sizing run — true to size, or should I size up/down (and does it accommodate a base/mid-layer)?
The Helium Down Hood Jacket has a regular, hip-length fit. It's designed to work as a mid-layer under a shell jacket or as an outer layer over a base layer. If you plan to wear it mostly under a ski shell, bring your shell when you try it on so you can check that the two layers work well together. Our staff can help you find the right size in-store.

Q2: Is this jacket warm and waterproof enough for skiing Big White and SilverStar in mid-winter?
The Helium is very warm for its weight thanks to its 700 fill power down insulation. It's windproof and has a water-repellent finish that sheds light snow, but it isn't a waterproof jacket. On storm days, wear it under a waterproof shell to keep the down dry, since down loses insulating power when wet. On cold, dry days with light snow, it works well as a stand-alone outer layer.

Q3: How do I care for down insulation and a water-repellent shell to maintain warmth and performance?
Close all zippers, then machine wash on a 40°C delicate cycle with similar colours. Don't use fabric softener, bleach, dry cleaning, professional wet cleaning, or ironing. Remove the jacket promptly after washing. Peak Performance recommends tumble drying it inside out on low heat with tennis balls for at least five hours. Take it out every half hour and shake it by hand so the down redistributes and doesn't clump.
