Product details

Cold, bluebird mornings at Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre can turn breezy and flurry-filled by the time you crest the last climb, and that's exactly where a good softshell earns its place. The Craft Practice Jacket is a weather-protective softshell designed for cross-country skiing and outdoor training in cold conditions. A 3-layer softshell with an integrated windproof membrane across the front blocks the wind on fast descents and open meadows, while elastic jersey panels at the upper back and under the sleeves dump heat and move with you through every pole plant and skate stride. Layer it over different mid-layers to match the day, from frosty sub-zero laps to milder spring skiing.

KEY FEATURES

3-layer wind- and water-repellent softshell with a PU membrane and DWR finish keeps moisture out while moving sweat away, so the jacket dries quickly and breathes well during high-intensity training

Fellex ECO-FA insulation on the exposed chest area, with stitchless ultrasonic quilting that keeps the membrane intact and a laminated front that stops moisture from soaking in and freezing

YKK zippers, a fleece-lined neck with chin guard, two zippered hand pockets, a single-grip adjustable hem, and elastic cuffs

WHO IS THIS FOR?

The Challenge Jacket 3.0 is for cross-country skiers who train hard through the coldest part of the season: classic and skate skiers putting in kilometres at Sovereign Lake and SilverStar, Nordic racers doing intervals on cold mornings, and active skiers who want one jacket that stays warm on the descents without overheating on the climbs. It's designed as part of a set with the Challenge Pants 3.0 for a complete cold-weather training outfit.

Our team at Fresh Air will help you find the right size and fit in-store at both Kelowna locations. Stop by to talk gear and activity with one of our experienced staff members, or call 250-763-3425.

FAQ

Q1: How does Daehlie sizing run? Should I size up or down, and will it fit over a base layer?
The Challenge Jacket 3.0 has a regular fit with raglan sleeves, and the stretch panels let it move with you. It comes in S to XXL, and the model shown is 187cm (about 6'2") and wears a size L. It's designed to wear over a base layer for active skiing. If you plan to add a light mid-layer on very cold days, we recommend trying it on in-store with your layers to check the fit through the shoulders and arms.

Q2: Is this jacket warm and waterproof enough for cross-country skiing at Sovereign Lake and SilverStar?
For active Nordic skiing on cold Okanagan days, yes. That's exactly what it's built for. The 3-layer softshell has a 10,000mm waterproof rating and a PU membrane, so it handles wind, snow, light rain, and sleet. Daehlie describes it as water-repellent rather than a fully waterproof storm shell, though. The Fellex-padded chest adds warmth where you need it most. For slower-paced tours on very cold days, add a warmer base layer underneath.

Q3: How do I care for this softshell to keep it water-repellent and breathable?
Close all zippers before washing, then machine wash at 40°C on a normal cycle with similar colours. Don't soak it or use fabric softener or bleach. Tumble dry on low, since the heat helps reactivate the water-repellent DWR treatment. Don't dry clean it.
