Product details

Frosty mornings at Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre and SilverStar bring cold headwinds on the descents and hard efforts on the climbs. Your legs need protection from the first and freedom for the second. The Craft Speed Pants 2 are built for high-intensity cross-country skiing in cold conditions. Windproof, water-repellent fabric with a grid fleece lining covers the front and calves, where the cold hits hardest, while brushed stretch jersey at the back lets heat escape and moves with every stride. They're made to match the pace of a hard session on the Okanagan's cold, dry trails.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

The Speed Pants 2 are for cross-country skiers who train hard and want lower-body protection that won't slow them down. They suit skate and classic skiers doing intervals at Sovereign Lake, regulars on the SilverStar Nordic trails, and anyone who finds standard ski pants too bulky or too warm for high-output skiing. The tight fit is designed to sit close over a base layer, and the leg zips and boot grippers keep the hems neat and sealed over your ski boots.

Our team at Fresh Air will help you find the right size and fit in-store at both Kelowna locations. Stop by to talk gear and activity with one of our experienced staff members, or call 250-763-3425.

FAQ

Q1: How does Craft sizing run — true to size, or should I size up/down (and does it accommodate a base/mid-layer)?
Craft lists the Speed Pants 2 as a tight fit, designed to sit close to the body over a thin base layer. If you plan to wear thicker thermal tights underneath on the coldest days, try them on over that layer, and consider the next size up if they feel restrictive through the hips or thighs. Craft's men's size chart is a good starting point, and our staff can help you compare sizes in-store.

Q2: Are these pants warm and waterproof enough for cross-country skiing at Sovereign Lake or SilverStar on cold days?
For high-intensity skiing in cold, dry conditions, yes. The windproof, water-repellent fabric with grid fleece lining at the front and calves blocks cold wind and sheds dry Okanagan snow, while the jersey back keeps you from overheating on the climbs. The fabric is water-repellent rather than waterproof, so the pants aren't designed for wet, heavy snow, sitting in snow or prolonged precipitation. On very cold days or slower-paced tours, add warmer thermal tights underneath.

Q3: How do I care for the windproof, water-repellent fabric to maintain its performance?
Always follow the care label first. As a general rule, wash technical ski wear on a cool, gentle cycle with a mild detergent made for technical fabrics, skip fabric softener (it can coat the fabric and reduce breathability and water repellency), and close the leg zippers before washing. Hang to dry. Washing regularly removes sweat and dirt that can wear down the fabric's water-repellent performance over a season.
