Product details

For skiers who skin out from the backcountry access points around Big White and Silver Star but still want to ski hard on the way down, a hybrid touring binding changes what one setup can do. The Armada Shift² 16 MN is a second-generation hybrid built for expert freeriders: tech-pin efficiency on the climb, then full alpine-binding security for the descent. This version adds a new Power Block AFD with an aluminum insert for 30% better lateral power transfer, reinforced toe wings and locking lever, and a firmer brake mechanism that resists accidental deployment in uphill mode. It is a touring-capable binding, so it fits skiers who split time between lift-served freeride and human-powered lines.

KEY FEATURES

A high DIN range (7–16) gives strong retention for aggressive skiers in demanding terrain

Switch between climbing and skiing with one toe lever, and get a lighter, more efficient stride on the skin track

Works with Alpine, GripWalk, Touring and WTR boot soles, so most adult boots with full toe and heel lugs will fit

A stronger brake lock and reinforced toe add confidence on long tours and hard landings

WHO IS THIS FOR

The Shift² 16 MN is built for advanced to expert skiers who want one binding for freeride days at the resort and touring days beyond it. It suits skiers who are heavy enough or aggressive enough to need a DIN setting in the 7–16 range and who use boots with full toe and heel lugs. If you mostly ski groomers or your DIN setting falls below 7, a different binding will likely suit you better.

Our team at Fresh Air will help you match the right binding to your boots, skis or board, and ability level in-store at both Kelowna locations. Stop by to work with one of our experienced staff members, or call 250-763-3425.

WHY SHOP WITH US

Binding mounting and DIN setting is a safety issue, not just a setup step. Our certified technicians will mount your bindings and set your DIN to the appropriate range for your height, weight, boot sole length, and ability level in-store at Fresh Air Pandosy (555 Groves Ave) or Fresh Air Dilworth (1656 Dilworth Drive). For a touring binding like the Shift² 16 MN, bring in your touring boots too. We'll check that they have full toe and heel lugs for downhill mode and tech toe fittings for uphill mode.

FAQ

Q1: How do I know if these bindings are compatible with my skis?
The Shift² 16 MN is Multi Norm certified, so it works with all adult boot sole types, including ISO 5355 Alpine, ISO 9523 Touring, WTR and GripWalk. Your boots need full toe and heel lugs to fit in downhill mode. Boots with shortened or missing lugs, such as the Dynafit Hoji Pro Tour and TLT, Atomic Backland, Salomon X-Alp and Arc'teryx Procline, will not work. Touring mode also requires tech toe fittings on your boot. For your skis, Armada recommends a brake width equal to the ski's waist width or up to 15 mm wider. Brakes come in 100 mm, 110 mm and 120 mm widths. Our staff can measure your skis and check your boots in-store.

Q2: Do I need to get these bindings mounted, or can I install them myself?
Have them professionally mounted. Ski bindings are safety equipment, and a correct mount, boot sole length adjustment and DIN setting decide whether the binding releases when it should and holds when it should. Our certified technicians at both Kelowna locations will mount the Shift² 16 MN, adjust it to your boot and set your DIN. We don't recommend DIY mounting or DIN adjustment.

Q3: What DIN setting is right for me, and why does it matter?
DIN is the release force setting on your binding. If it's too low, the binding can release unexpectedly. If it's too high, it may not release in a fall, which raises your risk of injury. Your correct setting depends on your height, weight, age, boot sole length and skiing ability, and a certified technician should determine it. The Shift² 16 MN adjusts from 7 to 16, which suits heavier or more aggressive advanced to expert skiers. If your recommended setting is below 7, this binding isn't the right fit, and our team can suggest alternatives.
