Arc'teryx Bird Word Trucker Hat – Lightweight Sun Protection for Adventure

The Bird Word Trucker Hat from Arc'teryx combines classic trucker style with performance features for hiking, climbing, and everyday sun protection. Lightweight front fabric, breathable mesh panels, and a quick-drying headband keep you cool and comfortable on hot trails.

WHO IS THIS FOR

The Atom Hoody suits skiers and riders who want one jacket that does double duty — a standalone piece for cold, dry days at Big White or SilverStar, and a reliable midlayer under a shell when storms roll through or backcountry tours heat up. It's also a natural fit for Sovereign Lake ski touring and anyone layering for deep Okanagan powder days. Our team at Fresh Air will help you find the right size and fit in-store at both Kelowna locations. Stop by to talk gear and activity with one of our experienced staff members, or call 250-763-3425.

FAQ

Q1: How does Arc'teryx sizing run — true to size, or should I size up/down (and does it accommodate a base/mid-layer)?
Arc'teryx generally fits true to size with a trim, athletic cut. The Atom Hoody is designed to layer over a base layer and fit cleanly under a shell, so most people find their regular size works well; if you plan to stack it over a bulkier base layer, consider sizing up.

Q2: Is this hoody warm and waterproof enough for deep Okanagan powder days at Big White or SilverStar?
The Atom Hoody's Coreloft Compact 60 insulation keeps you warm even if it gets damp, and the wind-resistant DWR shell handles light snow and changing mountain weather well. It's not a waterproof shell, though, so for sustained storms or wet snow we recommend pairing it as a midlayer under a waterproof shell jacket.

Q3: How do I care for the DWR finish to maintain its water repellency and breathability?
Wash in a technical cleaner rather than regular detergent, avoid fabric softener, and tumble dry on low heat — the heat helps reactivate the DWR coating. Reproof with a technical DWR treatment once repellency starts to wear off, and avoid ironing directly on the fabric.
